Episode 4: “ I saw the sign.” “Here’s your sign.” “Everywhere there’s signs!”- From Ace of Base to abrupt signs in your face.
True to form, the episode was inspired not only by our comedy act we call life but also via kismet of listening to old 90’s hits that inspired this quippy idea to introduce the subject that leaves many overthinking, baffled, or just plain oblivious. You guessed it; we’re talkin’ about signs! The wacky and wonderful have a knack for finding us when we need to remember NOT to take ourselves too seriously, and it delivers in spades. We emphasize some of the more humorous signs we’ve asked for and received, the loud signs we didn’t ask for but the spirit world decided we needed to hear anyway, and the subtle sweet ones that if you remember to look up, just might have been under your nose the whole time. Wednesday also discusses how loss inspired a more conscious relationship with her ancestors, and what those signs from her dearly departed have looked like since her beloved Nanna and uncle crossed over. Willow goes into depth about how numbers have appeared as signs for her, the general numbers that are often universal signs from the angelic realm, and her habit to compartmentalize which signs come in for what purposes because the mercurial mind never quits organizing.
There’s an emphasis on remembering to ask for signs/direction if you need it, to accept the signs as they appear, and recognizing when the divine might be asking for a favor in return. Even if that favor means you look ridiculous for ten minuets in efforts to escort a snapping turtle safely across a busy road. Yes- Frank,-er, sorry, St. Francis, asked it of Wednesday. Yes, she looked crazy and did comply, butterfly-net not included.
The different approaches to requesting signs are as different as our personalities- GOOD NEWS! THEY BOTH WORK!!
Willow is much more friendly 90% of the time when asking the divine for a sign, while Wednesday is usually ornery, demanding, and probably too casual in her approach for the average person’s comfort. Willow asks and then takes her time receiving signs and assistance, and often responds with gratitude on a regular basis, favors requested or not. Willow sheds light on the paradoxes of how her signs evolve in either painfully obvious situations, or poetically metaphoric via her spiritual work. She’s definitely making her momma proud with her excellent manners and generosity- she’s the wisewoman who’s keepin’ it classy y’all.
If you come from a strict religious background (especially a catholic one) it may be tough to understand Wednesday’s approach, which is rooted in an ongoing reciprocal and loving relationship with the saints mentioned in particular( in addition to her ancestors and other Deity that she works with). Wednesday’s personal opinions of and experiences with both St. Francis of Assisi and St. Anthony of Padua probably appears too comfortable/casual according to the Vatican’s standards-she’s not sorry. Wednesday treats them as equals- on that note, just take a “thank-you, next” approach to that section of the show if it bothers you. Wednesday means no harm: she's ornery, not cruel.
And No- our language is still not fit for the dinner table or polite company, but if you’ve been listening this long something tells us you don’t give a damn about it either.
Happy lunar eclipse, full moon, and Scorpio season- Blessed Be!
