Episode 2: Witch, Please! - Let's talk about stupid witches.
In this second episode, we get real snarky about something experienced practitioners are hesitant to address and very concerned about; The growing trendiness of witchcraft and the fallout from becoming such an “overshared” fad. We specifically take issue with “ Stupid Witches” who share misinformation about the craft, those whom are taking advantage of the naive newcomers and/or the vulnerable in the spiritual community, and those who willingly play into the Hollywood stereotypes consequently undermining hundreds of years of work our ancestors completed(sometimes suffered/died for) to ensure the new age community’s freedom and respect. As per usual, some of the content is NOT fit for polite company, and some of the language is NOT “dinner table” appropriate(especially in the bloopers, NOT sorry-that’s who we are).
********** A slight disclaimer to all you baby witches out there from the ages of three to a hundred and three; none of this is aimed to mock you, or to make light of your learning experiences. If you are new to the craft, interested, and have made some mistakes just know that we are NOT mocking you. We ARE mocking and calling out( in general terms) “stupid witches” who are willfully ignorant or arrogant and probably gave you bad advice that led to some of your mishaps. We all have blunders in the craft- if you learn from them and proceed forward differently because of the experience you are responsible and exempt from our criticism. We actually made this podcast with you in mind. There’s nothing wrong with being interested in the craft because you noticed it and are intrigued. We want you to know where information sources are more likely to be reliable/ethical vs. a shit sandwich sold to you for much more than it’s worth. Hopefully this podcast can help you avoid any major harmful consequences of acting on prior bad advice, because after all dears, you’re still learning and might not yet know better. We love you, just be careful and question everything.*****
We acknowledge why it is difficult to address this very sensitive issue(along with almost all other sensitive issues) across the board; it really comes down the ugly truth that people who are perpetuating misinformation, practicing/acting unethically or being downright silly are not likely to be receptive to feedback and make appropriate changes. We’ve become so polarized socially that it is rare for someone to respond to constructive criticism or questions without coming from a defensive frame of mind. Instead of having the habit of pausing to think about feedback and admit mistakes, heels are dug in and divisions are often formed. Because of this tendency alone, we do not feel it would be productive or a successful use of our time to address individuals we are concerned may be knowingly and possibly unknowingly contributing to this issue directly.
In order to circumvent the inefficiency of confrontation with those who we find concerning, we walk you through the social norms amongst those in the community who have done the learning and practice with good ethics. We also want to put the power in your hands to make informed decisions about those you interact with IRL, so we walk you through signs to look for if something seems “too good to be true” and maybe your bullshit detectors aren’t quite as sensitive as ours. We specifically address the straight up bad advice and the trendy( often misleading) over use of certain buzzwords and concepts such as the use of sage, palo santos, the “dark night of the soul” , working with” high roller” deities and how to respectfully invite them to work with you. We don't address the over use of the term "Empath" because that's so immersive it will require it's own episode.
We hope this helps you practice magic safely, ethically, a
